about

Warm vocals, acoustic instrumentation — rich, resonant, and unconventional — this is “False Start,” the debut album of indie singer-songwriter Bronwen Roberts. After several re-beginnings, the project marks the artist’s official launch onto the independent recording scene. With nods to songwriters like Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Leonard Cohen, the album combines a personal feel with polished sound.

Along with many songs on the album, the title track and single “False Start” is indicative of the artist’s use of Brazilian rhythms and levadas, or finger-picking techniques. Percussionist Stefan Gonzalez fills out the soundscape with earthy and driving hand percussion.
